TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY EMMANUELLE MICHEL

Jean-Sebastien Bruant, director of the Douhet marine farm, works on November 15, 2014, in La Bree-les-Bains, on the Oleron island off the western French coast, in a sterile laboratory where algae is cultivated to feed zooplankton which is used as food for fingerlings hatched in the farm. 40 million bream fingerlings hatch each year in the Douhet marine farm, 90 of which percent are exported to grow in countries of the Mediterranean basin. The fish mature in Greece, Turkey or Spain and are sold back to France, which imports 80 percent of its consumption of marine products produced in farms. AFP PHOTO / XAVIER LEOTY
