SYRIA-ASSAD-BOURBON
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad presents his Royal Highness Prince Carlo of Bourbon two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria, the Syrian "Grand Magistry of the Aacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George", at al-Shaab palace in Damascus 21 March 2004. The Duked bestowed on President Assad the highest Catholic Order, the honour of the "Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Francisco I" and the "Benemerenti Gold Medal of the Constantinian". President Bashar al-Assad has become the first Muslim head of state to be recognized by the Catholic order for his contribution to interreligious dialogue and understanding by a Catholic Institution.
